{"id":1980,"date":"2019-03-04T12:29:51","date_gmt":"2019-03-04T18:29:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/belovedlove.org\/reflections\/?p=1980"},"modified":"2019-05-17T13:20:59","modified_gmt":"2019-05-17T18:20:59","slug":"where-do-you-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/belovedlove.org\/reflections\/2019\/03\/04\/where-do-you-live\/","title":{"rendered":"Where Do You Live?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"s9\">When we moved to the small town of Florence, South Carolina, we bought a house in an established neighborhood. As we started to meet people, they would often ask where we lived. They didn\u2019t just want to know what neighborhood we lived in, but which house in that neighborhood. Once someone realized which <\/span><span class=\"s9\">house<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> we lived in they would almost always say \u201cOh, you live in the Whisenhunt house,\u201d referring to the previous owners, whose last name was Whisenhunt. This happened so often that after <\/span><span class=\"s9\">awhile<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> when someone asked me where we lived, I would just say \u201cwe live in the Whisenhunt\u2019s old house.\u201d Most times the person would smile and nod, and say something like \u201coh, that\u2019s a great house.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s9\">One time I was at the checkout counter of a local store, buying a doorbell. When I handed my check to the <\/span><span class=\"s9\">clerk<\/span><span class=\"s9\"> she glanced down at it, and then looked up, a big grin on her face. \u00a0\u201cOh,\u201d she said, \u201cI see from your address that you\u2019re living in the Whisenhunt\u2019s old house.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s9\">John 8:31\u201332 says \u201cIf you abide in my word, then you are truly disciples of mine; and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s9\">In the Greek, \u201cabide\u201d means to continue, dwell, remain. So abiding<\/span><span class=\"s9\">\u00a0in God\u2019s word, means to remain, or \u201ccontinue to be present\u201d in His word. \u00a0God\u2019s word becomes our home, our safe place. The center of our lives. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s9\">Abiding in His word means that we surround ourselves\u2014our minds, hearts, spirits\u2014with the words and truths of the Bible. We read it, memorize it, explore it in context. We talk about it, model our lives after it. When we do these things, the truths in God\u2019s word sink deep down into us and becomes a part of us, influencing how we interact with others, and how we see the world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s9\">Are you abiding in God\u2019s word? Are you reading it regularly, reminding yourself of its truths? \u00a0Is it so much a part of you that it often in your thoughts? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s9\">Take some time today to read the Bible&#8211;may be a long chapter, or only a few words. \u00a0Think about what you read. Write it down. Put it in your phone. Ask God to show you new insights from the passage, and how to apply it in your life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s9\">Get so comfortable in God\u2019s word that you feel at home there. As you do, it will change you.
