Let me tell you a little secret about me: \u00a0I am a clandestine celebrity watcher. \u00a0Yes, I am one of those people who scan the headlines in the grocery checkout lane. \u00a0At the hairdresser, I\u2019ll scroll through the latest People magazine. \u00a0I might even be known to [gasp] Google a star of my favorite TV show. \u00a0I make excuses for this somewhat silly voyeurism: \u00a0\u201cI need to be aware of what is going on in Daniel\u2019s world,\u201d I\u2019ll tell myself. \u00a0But truthfully, I probably know more about some stuff (the unimportant stuff) in Hollywood, than does my actor son Daniel, who actually lives there! \u00a0Besides, my \u201cstar watching\u201d started long before Daniel chose his career path and moved to LA.<\/p>\n

OK, now that you know my little secret, you shouldn\u2019t be surprised that my favorite part of the Sunday paper is Parade Magazine. \u00a0Which gets me to the part that might actually interest you.<\/p>\n

Not too long ago Parade featured an interview with actor Hugh Jackman, aka \u201cWolverine\u201d, of the X-Men.<\/p>\n

In the article, Jackman unabashedly acknowledged his Christianity, and described how his faith is intertwined with his work. \u00a0Here are his words, as quoted in Parade:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m a religious person. \u00a0This is going to sound weird to you. \u00a0In\u00a0Chariots of Fire, the runner, Eric Liddell, says, ‘When I run, I feel His pleasure.’ \u00a0And I feel that pleasure when I act and it\u2019s going well, particularly onstage. \u00a0I feel what everyone\u2019s searching for, the feeling that unites us all. \u00a0Call it ‘God’. \u00a0Before I go onstage every night, I pause and dedicate the performance to God, in the sense of \u00a0‘Allow me to surrender’. \u00a0When you allow yourself to surrender to the story, to the character, to the night, to the audience, transcendence happens. \u00a0And when that happens, there is nothing like it on the planet. \u00a0It\u2019s the moment people experience when they fall in love, which is equally frightening and exciting. \u00a0That\u2019s what it feels like.\u201d<\/p>\n

I think God wants each of us to experience moments like Liddell\u2019s and Jackman\u2019s. \u00a0These moments come when we surrender ourselves to Him. \u00a0When we relinquish control and just trust Him, we become a conduit for His Holy Spirit to work through us.<\/p>\n

God wants us to \u201cfeel His pleasure”, as we do what He made us to do.<\/p>\n

When we do, it is as if Jesus murmurs in our ear, \u201cWell done, my good and faithful servant. \u00a0Enter into the joy of your Master.\u201d<\/p>\n
