The past few days I’ve observed community from a different vantage point–that of a hospital. A whole host of individuals worked as a team for the betterment of the patient, who in this case happened to be my husband. The surgeons, anesthesiologist, operating room nurses, ward nurses all played a significant role in his on-going return to good health. But also important were those who were doing the “hidden/small things,” like the housekeeping staff who diligently worked to keep not only his room clean, but also the rest of the hospital. And the cooks and dieticians who made sure his body was getting good nourishment, which greatly helps in the healing process. And the administrative staff, pharmacists, physical therapists….the list goes on and on. EVERY individual, doing their particular part, played a vital role in his road to recovery.
the body of Christ
I Corinthians 12 talks about how the body of Christ is one body made up of many parts. It also explains that EACH part of the body has a significant role to play, and that when those parts don’t work together, the body simply doesn’t function as it was designed. A malfunctioning body results in suffering. In lack of growth. In a lopsided apportionment of the workload–like my husband is experiencing right now as his one arm, in a sling while bones heal, is trying to compensate for what two arms normally would do. Stated another way, healthy community enables us to function as God intended–with EACH individual making a unique and very necessary contribution that benefits us all. The workload is shared, not lopsided. Everyone is contributing and growing.
Remember: NO part of the body is too small or insignificant! EACH part is vital! We need one another.

As we get back on our feet in the aftermath of COVID-19, may we EACH seek how God wants us to fulfill our particular role in our respective communities. God has sovereignly brought us together. May He be honored and glorified as we work together as His body. Remember: NO part of the body is too small or insignificant! EACH part is vital! We need one another.
Stay safe! Stay healthy!

How have you seen the body of Christ working together this year?
