We’ve all had experiences in life that are forever etched in our memory, haven’t we? Some good, some not so good. A few years ago i had an absolutely wonderful experience that made me feel overwhelmed by love. It came to me quietly, while I was sitting at a desk in a classroom. There were a half dozen people scattered around me, fellow participants in a retreat led by Cursillo, The weekend was almost over. Our leader had just handed us each a bulging manila envelope, and invited us to take some personal time to open it and read its contents. I lifted the seal and glimpsed inside. It was a collection of letters and cards. I pulled the first one out and started to read.
And then I began to cry.
Each note was written by someone who knew and loved me—a friend, a family member, a coworker. Some near and some far away. Each described the things I loved about me, and how my life had blessed them. When I finished reading, I felt enveloped in love in a way I’d never felt before. I was able to relax into the knowledge that I was precious. Valuable. Wanted. Accepted. I was Beloved.
God yearns for us to experience love like this every single day
I think God yearns for us to experience love like this every single day. To live our lives immersed in the knowing that we are wanted and welcome. Precious. Worth dying for. He wants us to live in the knowledge that we are loved.
Jesus said “Abide in my love.”
John 15:9
Abiding in God’s love changes everything
When we abide in God’s love it changes everything. It’s as if a big weight is lifted off our shoulders. There’s an extra spring in our step. We smile easily, and we laugh more. We are less focused on ourselves, and more concerned with those around us. We are free to be who God made us to be.
Where are you on your journey in learning to live in God’s love? Please share with us!

Lydia, This reminded me of an exercise we would do for those going on a mission trip with First Pres. Florence. When they arrived we would give them an envelope filled with love notes from their friends. It felt like a huge hug from home. Thanks for sharing. Sending my love to you …..I think you are an amazing woman! Chris
