Our attitudes, and thus the quality of our lives, is determined by our thoughts. And we choose what we think about. If we spend a lot of time worrying, then we will constantly be tied up in knots. But when we focus on truth, our lives will be increasingly free of worry, and filled with peace and joy and hope. Jesus said it best:
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
With that in mind, I just want to share a few more verses that help combat anxiety and stress. (Also see 10 favorite verses to combat fear.)
More verses to combat fear, anxiety, worry, and stress:
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matt 11:28-30
We get burdened down with fear and worry. God says to come to Him, and leave our worry at His feet. Rest. And then do what He is leading you to do today.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Tim. 1:7
Because God is within us, and His spirit is joined to our spirit, we can claim the power, love and self-discipline that is ours.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
God always has our back. He leaves no man behind.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Matt 14:27
When we realize that God is in the middle of our storm, we can let go of our fear.
Fear not for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. Isaiah 43:1
Because we are God’s children, we are safe. We have nothing to fear.
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:19
God’s encouragement and compassion turns our anxiety into joy.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. John 4:18
God loves us perfectly. We can trust him to take care of us and lead us in the best way. The more we live in this reality, the less anxious we will be.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3
Trust is a choice. And God is trustworthy.
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? Psalm 118:6
The most powerful person in the universe is with every believer. We don’t have to be afraid.
Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. Proverbs 29:25 NIV
Fear is a mind trap we can fall into. But when we trust God, He will keep us safe.
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1 NIV
God is our place of safety. Our light. Because of Him we have eternal life. We don’t need to worry or be afraid.
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. John 14:1 NIV
Don’t give in to fear. Believe in God’s goodness, His love, His care for you.
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31 NIV
God treasures you. He loves you more than you can imagine. He knows everything about you. he knows exactly what is going on. You can trust Him to take care of you and those you love.
And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? Matt 6:27
Worry does nothing productive.
And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Matt 6:28-30
God cares for us much more than He does any other living thing on the earth. He takes care of His creation, and He will take care of us even more so.
These, and the ones mentioned previously, are my “go to” verses for fear, anxiety, worry and stress.
