Lately I’ve been rereading the classic Abiding in Christ, written by Andrew Murray in 1864. Murray, was a person of deep faith. It was evident from his writing that he knew God intimately and deeply. His book Abiding in Christ is one of those where I find myself underlining something in every paragraph, and then going back and underlining some more. Here’s a little prayer I wrote after reading one passage:
At This Moment
Christ, right now—at this moment–I choose to abide in You.
At this moment I choose to let go of sin. Unforgiveness, resentment, lack of faith, fear.
I choose to release the past, and the future, and simply enjoy the present–the presence of Your company.
At this moment, I am Yours and You are mine, and there is no one else in the universe. Just this connectedness, this flow, that comes from that connection. Thank You, that as I consciously commune with You, I sense Your Holy Spirit. And the peace. The safety. The rest it provides.
At this moment I am not doing. I am being. Being Your child. Being free. Being filled. Being loved. Being myself. Present. Eternal.
Thank You for this place of rest. And how that stays with me throughout the day. Thank You that from this stillness comes amazing energy—and courage, and determination–to do what You are leading me to do.
Every day, when I take time to be, and to connect, this stillness, this centeredness, feeds the core of my being. It reminds me of what is real. And important. And life-giving. It releases the subterranean waters of joy and peace to flow freely within my heart. And to bubble to the surface, bringing new life, new perspective, in unexpected ways.
My prayer for you today is that you would take a moment. Or a few. And just be in God’s presence today.
